Breitling Super Avenger 01 Boutique Edition Watch
Breitling as a brand is probably best known for its large, masculine aviation and dive chronographs, and no watch embodies masculinity quite like the Super Avenger. At 48mm in diameter, it is one of Breitling’s larger watches, second only to the Emergency Watch. Super Avengers has also launched limited editions before, such as the military 24-hour version we introduce here. However, this is the first time this watch has received boutique edition treatment, with the addition of the brand’s first in-house chronograph movement, the Breitling 01. The result is the aptly named Breitling Super Avenger 01 Premium Edition.
The dial of the new Breitling Super Avenger 01 Boutique Edition adopts the brand’s iconic “volcano black”. There are contrasting red highlights on the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and “Edition” above the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. The Breitling Super Avenger 01 Premium Edition features a ratcheted unidirectional rotating diver’s bezel with a luminous dot at 12 o’clock and an engraved 5-minute indicator for recording elapsed time. The crown is screw-locked and features a groove pattern for easy grip, while the chronograph pushers are set in zigzag fittings reminiscent of castle walls. The crown guard ensures that the crown is protected in the event of a knock or impact on the side of the case.
The Breitling Super Avenger 01 Boutique Edition is equipped with Breitling’s in-house caliber 01, the first movement in the Avengers series of watches. This is a COSC chronometer-certified self-winding mechanical movement with a column wheel chronograph with vertical clutch. It oscillates at a modern frequency of 28,800vph (or 4Hz), allowing timing accuracy to within 1/4 second. The movement has 47 jewels, offers a 70-hour power reserve, and an instant date-change mechanism.
The Breitling Super Avenger 01 Premium Edition features a solid case back decorated with a retro-style poster logo and red “Special Delivery” lettering. The watch is water-resistant to 300 m (or 1,000 feet) and comes with Breitling’s signature professional strap. While this boutique edition doesn't change much from the original Super Avenger's design, it represents a cost-effective way to get a Breitling-made chronograph in an ultra-masculine case and add a few unique.
